As the weather turns colder, we can help you Stay Well This Winter.
Cold weather can be detrimental to your health so it's especially important to take care of yourself during winter months.
Many illnesses and conditions are either triggered or made worse by cold weather. Long-term conditions such as asthma and arthritis can be made worse by cold weather, while flu and norovirus (winter vomiting bug) are common acute winter ailments.
Here's how we can help you Stay Well This Winter and deal with common cold weather ailments.
Flu is an unpleasant illness and can be serious for vulnerable people. The best way to protect yourself against flu is to have your flu vaccine annually. You can have your annual NHS flu jab right here at Broadway Pharmacy.
If you do catch the flu, we stock a range of remedies to ease the symptoms. Our trained healthcare assistants can advise on the most appropriate product.
Norovirus (winter vomiting bug)
Vomiting and diarrhoea can cause dehydration so it's important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent this happening - particularly in young children and the elderly. Oral rehydration sachets are available from the pharmacy and can reduce the risk of dehydration.
Winter conditions can trigger cold sores. If you regularly get cold sores, using an antiviral cream as soon as you recognise the early tingling feeling can reduce healing time. We stock a range or products to combat cold sores including antiviral creams and creams to soothe irritation.
Winter conditions often make dry skin worse, which is why it is essential to moisturise during winter. The best time to apply moisturiser is after a bath or shower while your skin is still moist to lock in that moisture, and again at bedtime. The pharmacy stocks a wide range of skin products. Speak to one of our healthcare assistants for advice and recommendations.
